Perfectly Cooked Sirloin Steak with Garlic Butter

In our family, you get to choose the food of your choice for your birthday dinner. And every year I pick the same thing: a steak. There is just something mouth-watering and belly-satisfying about a perfectly cooked steak.

And to be honest, this recipe is a no-fail! It perfectly sears the outside while cooking the inside, every single time. Ready to give it a try? It’s easier than you think!

First, heat up a cast iron skillet to medium or medium-high heat. Melt plenty of butter in the skillet and simmer some garlic cloves for extra flavor.

Sear each side of the steak. This cooks just the outside so that the moisture remains trapped inside the steak (as opposed to drying it out). Here’s the bonus trick: continuously ladle the garlic butter over the steak as it cooks.

Once the sides are seared, broil it in the oven for a few minutes per side, spooning the garlic butter over the steak after turning.

Lastly, finish the steak by tenting the pan with foil and letting it rest for five minutes. It will continue to cook in the pan and steam under the foil tent, while also absorbing the garlic butter.

Your patience will be rewarded as you slice into an evenly cooked sirloin steak. In less than 15 minutes you have a perfectly cooked steak. Pair it with extra garlic butter, an oven-roasted baked potato, or a side of Dale’s green beans.

Total Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 sirloin steaks
  • ¼ cup salted butter
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat a cast iron skillet to medium-high heat. Melt the butter in the skillet, and place the garlic cloves in the skillet.
  2. Sear each side of the steak, approximately 30 seconds per side.
  3. Cook for an additional 30 seconds per side, and continuously spoon the garlic butter over the steak.
  4. Broil on low for 2-4 minutes per side, depending on how you like your steak cooked. Spoon more of the garlic butter over the steak before and after flipping.
  5. Tent the skillet with foil and allow to rest for 5 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Note: This recipe cooks a medium sirloin steak. For a well-done steak, repeat step 3 an additional 1-2 times, or allow your steak to rest for 10 minutes in step 5. For a rare steak, broil for a shorter period of time in step 4, but still allow it to rest in step 5.
