In preschool, children encounter their first experiences in forming and joining social groups outside their family. It is natural for them to experiment with social interactions while learning about their world. In this guide, teasing and bullying are addressed as a continuum of intentionally hurtful behavior, from making fun of someone to repetitive physical abuse. Creating a caring environment at the beginning of school reduces the need for children to assert themselves through negative behavior such as teasing and bullying. With The Anti-Bullying and Teasing Book, teachers of young children can address this behavior before it develops.

The book gives teens the tools they need to keep themselves safe online, protect their digital reputations, and make their schools and their communities kinder places. 1. Reading an anti-bullying book is extremely important for several reasons. Firstly, it raises awareness about the different forms and impacts of bullying, which is crucial in a society where these behaviors can sometimes be overlooked or misunderstood. Such books often provide personal stories or scenarios that make the issue more relatable and tangible, helping readers to empathize with those who have been bullied.

Secondly, these books can be educational, offering strategies and tools for both victims and bystanders on how to effectively address and prevent bullying. They can empower individuals to stand up against bullying and create a supportive environment for everyone.

Moreover, anti-bullying books often encourage empathy and kindness, fostering a more inclusive and compassionate mindset among readers. This can lead to a broader cultural shift in how we view and treat each other, especially in schools and workplaces.

Lastly, for those who have experienced bullying, these books can offer solace and validation, letting them know they’re not alone and that their experiences are valid. This can be incredibly healing and empowering.

Overall, reading an anti-bullying book can not only educate and inform but also inspire positive change in personal behaviors and broader societal norms.

  2. Hello – these are indeed some fine books! Thank you for sharing. I was an incessantly bullied young man who grew up to be a very successful video game producer in Los Angeles. I’ve had a great career and great life having always kept my eyes and mind positively focused on the future. I know that is not the case for all. I recently published a powerful, modern depiction of bullying in a picture book called “BULLIED”. It follows 7 young targets of aggression right alongside their tormentors from adolescence to adulthood. It covers issues of sexual identity, body shaming, social status, religious persecution (Muslims), xenophobia, intelligence and more – including those who might do harm to themselves.
Please check it out. I very much hope it graces one of these helpful lists in the future. Thank you.

  3. Thanks for sharing! I’m glad there are books that show the perspective of the bully as well as the victim. Too often we forget that bullying behavior can come from a place of pain or confusion and those children need help just as much as–or even more than– the victims of bullying.

  4. I really like the way you have given a variety of books for parents.

Please look at my website and my best selling book ” Bully Blocking” .

As a psychologist with many years experience, helping children and adults I know that we can teach children how to block bullies in one or two sessions and then given them the best social skills to improve their friendships. Sadly, children who cant’ block bullies, can’t develop friendships based upon mutual respect.

  5. Good list of resources. Some level of bullying is a fact of life but and an unfortunate part of growing up. But these days it can easily go too far. You can go from just being mean kids to doing something illegal or something that will permanently hurt someone (physically or mentally) way to easily.

  6. I somehow found ways to cope up with bullying in school. But I am afraid for my son and my nieces if they will ever learn. Bullying is becoming more and more aggressive nowadays. thank you for these books. we hope to learn a lot from them

  7. Thanks for sharing this great list of anti-bullying books. Bullying is such a huge issue and needs to be addressed. My daughter was bullied most of last year and she ended up with a broken arm because of it. I am always teaching my kids not to bully and to always stop bullying when they see it happening.

  8. I think it is important for kids to be aware of bullying and how it is not appropriate to use the tactics and that they don’t have to submit to them either. Sounds like a great list to read.

  9. I am sure glad that you posted this. My son starts school soon I want to get him a book on bullying before he goes. I think its a great way to open the conversation.

  10. I love the wide variety of books on bullying. It’s such an important topic as I remember it happened to me distinctly in 6th grade. So much to talk about but at different levels……..it’s a lot different in elementary school than middle school.

  11. This is a great list. I was a victim of bullying when I was in elementary school and would have loved books like these to read for comfort and encouragement.

  12. It truly saddens me that there are so many books on anti-bullying. What is wrong with the world? It is awful we even need books like this, although, I am glad that they exist to help alleviate this.

  13. It is so refreshing that bullying is not the norm any more and is looked down on by society. Too many of us had to face this when we were kids.

  14. As a former therapist, I also see the other side of bullying where as people always think the bully is the problem, but there is something at the root of the bullying behavior and the child isn’t necessarily “bad” and often people make bullies out to be “bad”. The behaviors need to be addressed and changed but there needs to be a deeper level of understanding too.

  15. I am so glad to see so many books about bullying for children. There is so much bullying in today’s society it is not a small issue. Thanks for sharing.
