Beatrice– Beatrice is of Latin origin and means “she who brings happiness.” The name has a long literary history, most popularly being the main character in William Shakespeare’s comedic play Much Ado About Nothing and Dante Alighieri’s epic poem Divine Comedy.

Nora– Nora is of Latin origin and means “honor.” Nora was the name of one of the most famous writers, producers, and directors in history, Nora Ephron. It is also the main character, Nora Helmer, from Henrik Ibsen’s 1879 play A Doll’s House.

Pearl– Pearl is of Latin origin and means “precious.” Pearl is the birthstone for the month of June. It is also one of the main characters from Nathaniel Hawthorne’s 1850 work of fiction The Scarlett Letter.

Oscar– Oscar is a name that goes back to Irish legend, Oscar, the warrior son of Oisin and fairy Niamh. Actress Gillian Anderson and her husband Mark Griffiths named their son Oscar, born in 2006. The name is of Irish origin and means “deer-lover warrior.”

  1. We are due in November and all our name choices were vintage ones, many of your girl names were favorites of ours. These are great because people recognize them, but are not too weird or hard to pronounce. For boys, we also thought about Arthur and for girls, Edith.

  2. I love traditional/vintage names. There’s something about them that just makes me think of women sitting around for tea. Lol. I’m not sure why.

  3. Love these names (no weird ones like the celebrity baby names these days haha). Adaline is one I also like, after that movie with Blake Lively :)
