Are you looking for some easy baby food recipes you can make today?  You are in luck!  Making your own baby food is not as time-consuming or difficult as you might think.  Maybe you don’t think it is difficult but I felt like it would be just one more thing I would have to do.

Making your own baby food is a great way to help your little one experience new flavors. If you have a picky eater, it’s also a way to tailor his food to his tastes.  My son is a good eater and loves food (now that he has teeth and can eat the same things I do).  I am enjoying this time and hoping he doesn’t develop the picky eater habits my daughter has.  Check out these easy recipes to try today!

Things to think about before trying these easy baby food recipes

Is he ready?

As a general rule, it is best to wait 6 months before introducing solids.  However, doctors all have varying opinions on this and many say that if your baby can hold his head up, can sit upright without assistance and seems more interested in what you are having for dinner than what you are trying to give him, then he is ready.  I am no doctor, just a mom of two.  A good rule of thumb is to space out new foods every 4 days.  This will also help you identify if a particular food is bothering him.

Do I need organic?

To me, the idea of making my own baby food means that I want to avoid any possible chemicals and additives that might end up in some jarred foods.  Choosing organic is totally your choice.  It might be a good idea, though.  Your baby’s digestive system is not like yours or mine (or even my 7-year old’s).  His tiny body can not handle the pesticides and toxins.  When in doubt, go organic.

Will he develop allergies?

It is best to wait to introduce certain foods such as eggs, milk and shellfish.  His body is still growing and building up immunities.  Some of the foods we eat could be allergy inducing and cause gas.  We know as adults how uncomfortable gas can be, and it is 10 times worse on your baby.  So hold off on some foods for now.  There is a reason you don’t give him cows milk before he is a year old.

Sweet Potato Puree

You’ll need 4 ounces of sweet potato finely diced and 1 cup of water.

Bring water and potatoes to a boil and stir.  If it is too thick, add a little water, if it is too watery, keep boiling.

You can make a bunch and freeze it then just zap it in the microwave when you are ready to use it.

Carrots

These are even easier to make!  Boil water, and peel and dice your carrots.  Place them in a steaming basket over the water.  This will take about 20-25 minutes.  When they are soft, you can put them in your food processor, puree and voila!  Make a bunch and freeze it so you have it on hand.

Peaches

6 peaches will fill a standard ice cube tray, just peel and dice first.

Boil water, and add peaches to steamer basket. When you can easily stab peaches with a fork, they are done. Put them in the food processor and puree!

Brown Rice Cereal

You’ll need ½ cup short grain brown rice. Grind the rice with a spice grinder until finely ground (usually 45 seconds to a minute), You can actually store a bunch of it just like this for future use, be sure it is in a cool dark place, or the refrigerator.

Boil ½ cup of water and add 2 tablespoons of the brown rice. Whisk until it is the consistency you want, and there are no lumps.

Aren’t these baby food recipes so easy to make?  My son is too old now for me to make him baby food now (I think I just shed a little tear).  I would definitely recommend you make your babies solid foods when he is ready!  Think of the money saved and the toxins avoided!

  1. Making baby food recipes is always going to be so interesting as every baby is unique in their food style. These are some great recipes to try out & I love that they are healthy food options as well.

  2. It’s good to have a list of recipes for your baby, I would much prefer to make homemade baby food than buy what’s the ones available in the stores. It’s definitely healthier and you can choose your own ingredients.
