When it comes to reaping the benefits of bathing with baby, safety is key. Here are a few tips to make sure your little one stays safe in the tub with you:

  • Wait until the umbilical cord heals. You don’t want to submerge your baby until that little piece of umbilical cord has fallen off and his navel is all healed.
  • Watch your water temperature. You might love scalding hot baths, but your baby doesn’t. Stick to room temp water (or slightly above).
  • Stick to the shallow end. Fill the tub up with no more than two to three inches of water.
  • Use the buddy system. If you have a partner, get into the tub first, then ask them to hand the baby over. If you are going it alone, get everything you need ready first, then use safety grips and carefully step into the tub. Hold your baby to your chest as you ease yourself down into the water.

Once in the tub, use the time to bond further with your little one with these fun and interesting bath toys!

  1. Mine is anything small that can be put away out of sight when the kids are done and that doesn’t make a mess. My kids’ favorites? The bigger, the better, and if it spins, sprays water, and chirps incessantly (looking at YOU, VTech Swim & Spray Musical Dolphin…) it’s definitely going to be part of every bath.

So cute! I’ve always loved the “art bath toys” that allow kids to draw on themselves and the bathtub! So fun and kids get a kick out of them!
