We already know that reading is a wonderful activity to share with our children.  Not only does reading allow parents to bond with their kids, but it also helps children develop their language skills.

Any books that your child truly enjoys, and wants you to repeat over and over can help your child’s language development by simply encouraging parents and children alike to chat about the book, and the reasons why they like it.  The books don’t need to be complicated, in fact the simpler the better.  Look for books with silly rhyme schemes; bright and colorful images; repetition and world play; and most importantly, books that address your child’s interests. Here are some wonderful books for language development for young children.

Thanks for sharing your books. I am going to forward your post to my daughter. She is a teacher in early development. She would love to know about these books.

  2. I think reading is so important for kids. It’s a great time to bond with parents and gives me fond memories of growing up. I love the sound of the wonderful things you will be x

“Mama called the doctor and the doctor said, ‘No more monkeys jumping on the bed!'” :) I read this book with both of my boys. The books you have listed here are great examples of books that help young children with language development and early reading skills.

  4. Weird to see some of the books I used to read as a kid, still on the list. Dr Seuss is still one of my favourites and I just bought the whole set for my 6 month old niece. I look forward to reading them with her in the future!

  5. I taught elementary school for 8 years before having my own kids. Your choices are great, and I agree that any book with lots of repetition is great for helping kids learn and appreciate language. Great memories with the “Monkeys jumping on the bed” book!

  6. Great recommendations. There is truly nothing more important than early reading development for kids. Starting kids out as early as possible by reading to them develops other necessary skills in them. My kids were big readers and we loved all the books you listed.
