I don’t know about you, but I’ve never been a big fan of laundry day. I can’t think of anyone who says “yay, it’s time to wash that mountain of clothes!” Over the years, I’ve tried out many different laundry hacks to help make the task a little less daunting. While nothing can make you feel like jumping for joy as you pop yet another load into your washer or try to fold Mt. 9 Brilliant Laundry Hacks To Save You Time & Money

1. Dry your clothes faster

If you are in a hurry and need your laundry to dry quickly, toss a clean, dry towel in with the rest of the clothes. The towel will soak up the excess water in the clothes, making your clothes dry faster.

2. DIY soap for sensitive skin

Make your own laundry soap that is safe for those with sensitive skin. Shave a bar of soap with a grater. Add in 1 cup of borax and 1 cup of washing soda. Mix together well until it is a powder consistency. Store in an airtight container. When doing laundry, use 2 tablespoons per load of laundry. Check out this easy tutorial!

3. Stop colors from fading

Do you hate how some of your colored clothing seems to fade? You can prevent fading by adding a teaspoon of salt to your load of laundry. It will work with your laundry detergent to keep your colored clothes looking bright.

4. Breathe life back into worn-out towels

Are your towels feeling hard and worn-out? Next time you do a load of towels, instead of using laundry soap, use equal amounts of baking soda and vinegar. This will help bring life back to your towels.

5. Dry sweaters the right way

To properly dry your sweaters, don’t hang them outside on the clothesline because this may cause the sweaters to stretch out. Instead, lay them on a flat surface to dry so they maintain their shape.

6. Freeze out wrinkles

If you have an item of clothing that is wrinkled, try this easy hack. Toss the item of clothing into the dryer, along with a dryer sheets and an ice cube. The dryer sheet and ice cube will work together to smooth out your clothes and leave them smelling fresh.

7. Keep whites white

Do you have a tough time keeping your white clothes looking white? Try adding 1 cup of baking soda in with your normal laundry detergent. Add directly to the clothes to whiten them and keep them smelling fresh.

8. DIY dryer sheets

Instead of using dryer sheets, try using aluminum foil. Just make a tight ball with the aluminum foil and toss into the dryer with your clothes. It works wonders for removing static and you can reuse the same foil ball for about 4 months. If foil isn’t your think, I also love this tutorial on making DIY fabric softener and dryer sheets!

9. Stop losing socks!

It happens every time: a pair of socks go into the washer together but only one sock comes out of the dryer. It’s like our socks are divorcing each other somewhere along the line! Keep those mates together forever by either putting all your socks into a mesh bag before tossing them into the washer.

While these laundry hacks aren’t exactly going to make you look forward to clothes washing day, they’ll definitely help save you a little time and money on the dreaded task!

  1. I love the idea of throwing in a dry towel to speed up drying! My hack is to use white vinegar in the rinse cycle- removes all the soap residue from clothing AND the washer (getting a 2-for-1 there) and clothes are SUPER soft, so no need for a softener!
