Rich & Delicious Easy Chocolate Muffins Recipe for Kids

You have to feed him right?  Get your little one involved in the process.  Cooking with your kids is a great way to get them to try new things, learn what goes on in the kitchen and get some good quality time with you.  It is kind of like killing 2 birds with one stone; you have to cook and feed your family, but you also get to spend some time with your kiddos, which can be hard to find sometimes.  Plus think of the rewards you will get to reap in a few years when they can take over dinner one night a week! Check out our favorite kid-friendly recipes for ideas!

Build a fort and read books

My daughter loves to build forts!  We would build one every weekend if we could.  She loves to take all the pillows from the couch and my bed and her bed and all the blankets she can find and use chairs and whatever other furniture she can move to set it all up.  Then we climb in with the iPad or a book and play some games or read a few stories.  It is a great way to get some QT with your little one.  A nice way to sneak in some reading practice as well.

Games

I grew up playing board games and card games with my family.  I am enjoying that my daughter is now old enough to learn to play the card games with me.  She asks me every single night if we can play UNO or Skip-bo or Sorry.  I feel like we really get a chance to connect and enjoy each other’s company during those times too!  She is learning some good strategy in her game as well.  No, I do not ‘let her win’, we play by the rules.

Dance party

A few times a week I just get in the mood to turn up the music and dance around the house.  My daughter looks at me a little funny, but she joins me. My son is too young to think anything else about me except that I am just awesome, so he claps his hands.  It’s fun!  We have the same taste in music, so it makes it easy to pick songs.  Or just stream from your favorite app and be surprised by what plays.

Visit the library

Check out your local library; they often have fun activities going on for different age ranges.  They should have a calendar of events (probably even online), and you can plan ahead.  Or just go and pick some books that you can read together.  Stay a while, read in the little reading nook area that I am sure every children’s section of every library has.  You can always read at home, but reading at the library, surrounded by books (and where you have to be someone what quiet) is fun.

You don’t always have to ‘spend money’ to do something fun.  As your kids grow, it is the time you spent with them they are going to remember, not the amount spent on them.  My daughter and I read every night, just me and her.  It is our special time together where we are not interrupted by her little brother.

We’re always cooking or baking in our house. After dinner every night we have a little dance party. Tires us all out!

  2. These are all great ideas. So many I used to do with my girls when they were little that I hadn’t thought about with my grandchildren. Looks like we’re having a dance party :)

  3. That is really a great idea! Especially the kids nowadays is getting addicted on technology. Thanks for that!

  4. It doesn’t have to be an expensive experience, really. There are definitely lots of mommy and me activities to do for free, even when you’re at home. These are nice suggestions!

  5. I thinking cooking with your kids is a fabulous idea. You get to spend time with them and hopefully encourage them to try new foods. The library also offers a fun and engaging way to spend time together reading.
