Spring is here, which means it’s time to start a little spring cleaning! Your house and closets are probably on the top of your list for things to spring clean, but what about your budget? If you want to save money, then spring cleaning your budget is a necessity. Here are some tips you can follow to help reevaluate your budget this season.

Money Tips: How to Spring Clean your Budget

Make a List of Expenses

What are your expenses? If you want to spring clean your budget, then it’s time to take a look at where your money is going. In addition to your mortgage, grocery expenses, and utilities, take a look at what bills you have. Make a list of these expenses, including how necessary they are, as well as how much they cost each month.

Cut the Extras

After you know what your expenses are, you can start cutting some of the extras out of your budget. Do you really need to pay for all of those channels on your TV? If you can, complete cut these expenses out of your budget. If that just isn’t realistic, then you need to consider reducing these bills. You can do this by combining bills so that you pay a smaller amount of your cable, internet, and phone. You can also reduce the amount of channels you get on your TV so that the package you pay for is less.

Divert More to Savings

While you’re spring cleaning your budget, be sure to divert more money to your savings. Your savings account will be your lifeline in case of a financial emergency or unexpected expense. Because these expenses are out of the ordinary, it’s important that you have enough set aside to cover these costs without draining your account.

Turn Off Some Lights

Although this might not seem like a way to spring clean your budget, it can actually help you save money, allowing you to reduce your expenses. This is always good news for your budget, so start turning of those lights and unplugging your electronics!

Spring cleaning your budget is a great way to cut expenses and start saving money. What are your best money tips?

  1. I just went through my lightbulbs and replaced them with lower wattage, higher efficiency and you can’t tell the difference…hopefully save me a bit

  2. I’ve been trying to stay away from online shopping, and not even checking out daily deal sites lately. I’ve also been devoting more time to making money through my writing and less time entering giveaways so that I can have a little extra to spend for the upcoming warmer weather. If I could find a way to do away with the cable, that is next.

  3. We don’t have cable we just have our Wii and then we connect to Hulu or Nextflix. Can’t be $8.99 or so a month versus a cable bill! I think if we were to cut out anything it would be eating out.

  4. I like this informative post. You have given some real great budget tips to save money in spring. Instead of throwing away your belongings to reduce clutter, you may sell your stuff to help boost your savings or earn extra money.

  5. I have really been avoiding doing this, which is probably a sign that I should. Maybe I’ll sit down this weekend and go through your list. Thank you for the reminder.

  6. I like your tips. I definitely agree with diverting more money into savings. We all need a cushion in case of emergencies. Having money moved to savings automatically is the best way for this.

  7. We are pretty frugal with our budget, but we can always find a little more to save here and there. Turning off the lights and unplugging stuff is definitely something we can work on!

I think these are great ideas. I think it’s time for my hubby & me to sit down and have a good look at our finances.
