If you think about it, it’s amazing how many ways energy fuels your life. It helps us keep in touch with family, put hot meals on our tables and, in many cases, allows us to earn a living. It brings life to an otherwise dead television set for family movie night and connects us to resources to find answers to our children’s burning life questions. You really never know how much you need energy until you lose it, trust me!
Energy Fuels Our Lives
Two years ago I lost power to my home for 8 days. While I was in my house, I was in an energy-free zone. The first day, I pouted a bit but thought it would be over fast. On the third day, I started crying. By the 8th day, I went off the deep end and started wandering my neighborhood in my pajamas for signs of the power company. I actually cried tears of joy when I saw them arrive in our development!
See, in my life, energy is more than just something that keeps the lights on, the coffee pot heated and the toilets flushing properly. It’s a significant part of my livelihood! I work from home, on my computer. A day without energy means a day of lost wages. A week without energy was enough to cripple my finances. While I was able to go to internet cafes to get SOME work done, the stress of being without power made it difficult to focus.
Energy Fuels Our Dreams
Energy doesn’t just fuel our day-to-day lives, it’s often required to fuel our dreams. In fact, unless your dream is to move out to the middle of nowhere and live like Little House on the Prairie, chances are energy is required in one way or another for any lifelong dream you have. Then again, even the Ingalls made use of trains, which require energy.
I have many dream experiences, from traveling the world to running my own gorgeous inn. It’s hard to pick just one, but if asked, I’d have to say that my ideal dream life is being able to continue to support my son and myself by doing what I love most: writing.
While I already have my dream job, I’d love to see it evolve into an internet empire, with a massive staff of writers, travel opportunities for all and a home office that consists of more than my dining room table. For that, I’m going to need a lot of energy- both of the mental and the literal variety! After all, you need to be connected to build an empire!
In my dream, moms (and dads!) across the world will be able to work from home to support their families while still being part of a large professional community. Working from home saves so much energy. Imagine the impact if thousands of people didn’t have to make a commute to and from work. An empire of staff working from their homes also eliminates the need to fuel a large office complex too.
