At OurFamilyWorld, we love focusing on easy healthy recipes for families. We strongly believe that anyone can make a healthy meal if you have the right ingredients. While we use a lot of fresh foods in our recipes, frozen foods also play an important role, especially for those days when we are really strapped for time. Take a look at how we reap the benefits of frozen foods!

5 Ways to Use Frozen Foods in your Healthy Recipes

1. Make them part of your healthy breakfast. I love breakfast foods, especially waffles! I don’t always have time to prepare them from scratch. Oh, who am I kidding, I don’t actually know how to prepare them from scratch! I love combining frozen waffles with fresh fruit to create a healthy breakfast.

2.Smoothies! Smoothies are one of my favorite beverages year round. I love that they make perfect snacks. I also use them for breakfast quite a bit when I’m not hungry enough for actual food. Use frozen fruits to get delicious flavor when your favorite berries are out of season.

3. Stir Fry: Using frozen vegetables in a stir fry is a great way to use leftover meats from other meals. Just about any vegetable goes!

4. Soups: I know most people think of soups as being a winter food, but I could eat it year round. One of my favorite soups is a potato and corn chowder. I love using frozen sweet corn in it! Frozen carrots are also great for a homemade chicken noodle soup.

5. Mac and Cheese: Yes, mac and cheese can totally be healthy if you make it yourself. Use whole grain elbow pasta and lighten up on the cheeses.  Add some frozen broccoli into the mac and cheese itself or serve it on the side. My son also loves frozen carrots with his mac and cheese. In fact, he’ll eat carrots with anything!

Freezing locks in flavor and nutrients for healthy meals

Did you know that frozen is How Fresh Stays Fresh? The freezing process takes fresh ingredients and meals, then locks all that flavor and the nutrients in place until you are ready to use them. It’s like creating a fabulous meal, then hitting the pause button on them. Frozen fruits and vegetables are picked and paused right at the height of their freshness, letting you enjoy off-season favorites any time of the year.

So next time you think about fresh vs frozen, remember that you can incorporate many frozen foods into your healthy meals!

I love my freezer food, I make extra all the time and the extra gets frozen because you never know. And often those frozen foods go for lunches or tossed in with another meal,
