Technology has made life so much easier in so many ways. It allows us to instantly connect with loved ones across the ocean and makes our kids’ book reports a breeze to write. We’ve become intertwined with technology in just about every aspect of our lives. It’s pretty much an obvious next step to use technology for our health care needs.
I personally use technology for health care needs in many different ways. When I need to find a provider that takes my insurance, I go on the website and search. My doctor has a website where I can view all my medical records. Since they’re tied to the hospital I use, I can also get labs and other information from ER visits. When I do visit the ER for an emergency, my doctor gets notified via email and gives me a call to check up on me. It’s really fantastic because I know I can connect to my health care information in just seconds anytime I need it.
Wouldn’t be amazing to take technology a step further when it comes to health care? I just spent 15 minutes on the phone rescheduling a surgery that I had planned for the end of April. Unfortunately, my mother will be out of town that week and I have no one to care for my son, so I had to move it to May. I would love to get to a day where I can just hop on my computer, go to my doctor’s website and send in a quick request for the change. One day, I’d love to be able to access all my medical information in one place. I’d love all my doctors, from the one who is handling my upcoming surgery to the one who cared for me when I had preeclampsia years ago, be on the same page and able to interact with each other.
Aetna Foundation’s commitment to digital health care technology
The Aetna Foundation is committed to using digital health technology to help everyone of all walks of life get the medical help they need. Digital health care technology is particularly helpful in vulnerable and minority populations. The Digital Health Initiative helps these populations use their cell phones to access medical information. Take a look at this infographic for more information:
Back on February 5th, the Aetna Foundation announced that it would issue over $1.2 million in grants to help support digital health technology. Grants will be used for fantastic services like mobile health or mHealth, among vulnerable and minority populations. That’s not all: these grants are part of a larger $4 million, three-year digital health commitment from the Aetna Foundation.

Aetna is our current insurance provider – i have had ups and downs with them during the duration of them being our provider.
As an R.N., as well as a health care consumer, I welcome this digital age and the many advantages to both the consumer and the health care provider. I find this to be a win-win situation! I am not totally familiar with Aetna, but I am heading over now to thoroughly check them out. Thanks!

I have been a fan of Aetna for many years, it has been a great insurance for us, we love it.
Probably the worst thing for peace of mind, but I google symptoms and use webmd all the time. Earlier this year when we had the flu, I used my phone to research flu shot information since we all had never had one. We do now.
I miss having Aetna insurance. :(
