Back to school Shopping Tips:

Use Hand Me Downs
Obviously, this is the best way to save money. If you know someone who has items that their child no longer needs, see if they can hand the items down to your child. Certain items include backpacks, clothes, technical calculators and other items that may be specific.
Search Dollar Stores
Though this is not a concrete rule, you can typically find some items cheaper in dollar stores. Because every city and town is different, it is worth checking. However, items like notebooks and paper can be purchased for as little as 20 cents in major grocery and home office stores. Dollar stores and small privately owned stores may sell items like binders, folders and writing utensils cheaper than what a home office or grocery store would sell them for.

Use Coupons

This is a great way to save money, especially during the back to school season. The best coupons for the back to school season are given out long before the season starts. Therefore, be patient and save all the coupons that you get in the mail and in the stores; they will pay off. Coupons are not just for in-store purchases anymore. Now, many people purchase items online with coupon codes. In fact, many businesses allow people to sign-up for online coupons that are sent to the shopper’s email. Not only do shoppers save money on items, but they also save money on the gas they did not have to use to travel to the store.

Wait to Purchase Items

If possible, only buy the bare essentials for your child. After a week of school being in session, unsold item prices are greatly reduced to sell the remaining bulk items. Sometimes these unsold items are marked down 50 to 70 percent off. Commonly marked down items after the big shopping weekend is over include backpacks, boxed pencils, notebooks, folders and clothes. This one of my favorite back to school shopping tip.

Sell Last Year’s Items

Many people tend to save every small thing they own. However, if you do not plan on using last year’s items, such as clothes and backpacks, you can sell them to consignment shops and other stores. Use the money you make from your sold items to purchase new back to school items. This will offset the cost that you will have to pay out-of-pocket for. Implement these tips before the back to school season starts, and you will be sure to save valuable money. Always remember to shop smart.
