How many junk food junkies are lurking in your home? Many of us would be offended to be called a “junkie” since by definition the word can refer to a person having an addiction to a particular drug. However, have you ever heard of a junk food junkie? A recent three-year study indicated that an over-consumption of high-calorie food triggers addiction-like responses in the brain—thus, a junk food junkie. The study referred to junk food as high-fat and high-calorie type foods and confirmed that junk food has addictive properties. So what does that mean for you and your family?
If junk food has addictive properties, then we all need to take a serious look at our own eating habits. What type of foods are we regularly preparing for our family? Are we bingeing on the wrong types of food? Perhaps better food choices could be made.
This study also sheds light on the difficulty of obese people in conquering their food addiction. There are some people that think everything is about “willpower.” Wrong. If junk food could be as addictive as smoking or heroin addiction, then there is a lot more involved than self-control and willpower when it comes to food addiction. The term “junk food junkies” may be appropriate.
Currently, at least 30% of our children are obese or overweight. Nip bad eating habits in the bud. Once children are hooked on the wrong kind of food, their desire for more nutritional food will be less and less. We want all of our kids to be happy and healthy. So the next time you reach for that box of Twinkies, think again. Hopefully, by making better food choices you can prevent junk food junkies from lurking in your house.

Found you via the blog hop. Thanks for posting this. you definitely offer insight into binge eating and junk food addictions. More people (and parents) need to be aware of the cause.
Hi Kathryn,
Thanks for visiting our blog. Healthy eating is sometimes hard to manage but it’s important for parents to be aware.

I think it’s easy for someone to become a food junkie because there is so much junk food out there. With all the fast food restaurants it’s really tempting to just pop in for a quick snack.
Regards your previous post; my daughter has her meal at night in front of the television and she never leaves anything. Her plate is always clean no matter what I give her. I’ve found that when we sit at the table together she struggles. She’s autistic and prefers her own company so it made sense to do it this way and save hassle at meal times.
Found you through Wednesday blog hop

Hi Crystal,
Thanks for visiting our blog! I find that the most important thing for a kid is to eat. If your daughter eats well when watching TV, why not!! Every kid is different.
Have a great week
