Spooktacular Halloween Cooking with Kids

Halloween is certainly a holiday for kids. It is also an excellent opportunity to have children cooking and trying some different recipes. Cooking with kids at Halloween or anytime is a fun experience.

Mummy Dogs

  • 1 pkg hot dogs
  • 1 pkg of refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • Mustard
Open the crescent dough and separate into 4 rectangles pressing the triangular perforations together to eliminate them. Use a pizza cutter to slice the dough into thin strips, when cooking with kids older children can do this with some adult direction. Children can then wrap the strips around the dogs to make mummies. Encourage them to leave room at one end for the face. After baking in the oven similarly to the directions on the crescent package. When the mummies have cooked and are on a plate kids can add mummy faces out mustard! You cooking kids may want to use a toothpick dipped in the mustard to paint on the faces.

Creepy Crawly Pasta Salad

Combine the following ingredients in a large bowl (cooking kids can prep some or all of the vegetables depending on their age and skill):
  • 8 oz cooked fusilli pasta, cooled
  • 1 medium zucchini, julienned
  • 1 C cherry tomatoes
  • 1 C fresh cauliflower florets
  • 1 C colossal black olives, halved
  • ¾ C pimento stuffed olives
  • 1 small green pepper, diced
  • ½ C red onion, diced
Dressing, combine the following ingredients in a small bowl (this part can be completely done by your cooking kids with the adult doing the measuring):
  • ¼ C Ketchup
  • 2 T sugar
  • 2 T white vinegar
  • 1 t garlic powder
  • 1 t onion powder
  • 1 t paprika
  • ¼ t salt
  • ¼ C vegetable oil
Pour dressing over vegetables and pasta and toss to coat.

Easy Witch Hat Cookies

This recipe is simple enough to be completed by preschool kids cooking.
  • ‘Fudge Stripe’ Prepackaged cookies
  • Unwrapped ‘Kiss’ Candies
  • Fudge Frosting
Flip cookiesso that the side that is completely coated in fudge is up. Dip unwrapped kisses in fudge frosting, and then secure over the hole of the cookie. Enjoy!Your cooking kids will love to make an entire holiday meal. They may try some vegetables they wouldn’t otherwise. It is certainly beneficial to fill them with some healthy food before sending them out into a sugar fest holiday. Cooking with kids can be fun for you and educational for them.
