These positive things you say to a child are real confidence boosters for kids! Check out our parenting tips to take the message even further!

It’s extremely important to say positive things to a child on a daily basis. If you don’t, that child will start to lose his or her self-worth, which in turn affects school work, home life and interaction with friends. Honestly, there is an unlimited number of wonderful things you can tell children in an effort to make them feel good about themselves and boost their self-esteem. This is by no means a comprehensive list. But, it will get you on the right track.

One thing to add before we check out these positive things you can say to a child: don’t exaggerate of give false praise. We think we’re being enthusiastic and mean well when we say “you’re the smartest kid in the whole wide world,” but it can actually have the opposite effect on their self-esteem than we intend. Our kids do so many incredible things every day, so focus on the real accomplishments!

  1. I love this! Speaking positively to our kids is so important. Showing support is one of the most important things for me as a parent.

  2. I feel like I always say the same thing to my boys whenever I’m proud of them! I love the variation of positive phrases you gave. They need lot of positive reinforcement for every correction they receive.
I always greet them positively like:
    Hey, Smart Guy!
    Morning, handsome.
Thanks for helping me clear the table, sugar booger.
LOL I have kids that are 1.5 and 5, so they love when I call them cute names….. for now lol
