10 powerful Valentine’s Day Movies for Kids on Netflix

Before we get started with this list of Valentine’s Day movies for kids on Netflix, I just want to remind you that shows and movies come and go on Netflix pretty much every day. We do our best to make sure the list stays current, and apologize in advance if any of these disappear from Netflix before we have a chance to update it again.

1. Beauty and the Beast

Is there any greater love story than Beauty and the Beast? Netflix has both the live-action version starring Emma Watson and the original animated version from 1991. Both versions are high on my must-watch Valentine’s Day movies for kids and families list. The live-action version was absolutely stunning! If your kids have never seen the animated version, start with that, then watch the live-action one so they can compare and see how Disney brought their favorite characters to life. 2. A Cinderella Story

There are many, many versions of the classic Cinderella tale on Netflix! I love A Cinderella Story from 2004, starring Hilary Duff. It’s a modern take on the tale. Duff plays Sam, a girl who meets the boy of her dreams at a dance before returning to her mundane life toiling away in her stepmom’s shop. Can a lost cell phone bring them together?

3.Charlotte’s Web

While Charlotte’s Web isn’t exactly a fairy-tale romance for kids, it’s still very much a love story worthy of Valentine’s Day movie night! Charlotte’s love for Wilbur is one of the most touching tales of friendship ever written. The all-star cast of Julie Roberts, Oprah Winfrey and more bring the most beloved children’s classic to life!

4. Monster High: Why Do Ghouls Fall in Love?

Valentine’s Day and Draculaura’s 1600th birthday are just around the corner! You know what that means, right? Party time! Draculaura’s best ghoulfriends are throwing her a huge bash. Meanwhile, her current love, Clawd, is searching for the perfect gift, but her old beau Valentine makes a rather sudden appearance. Can Draculaura’s ghoulfriends keep her from making a mistake and giving her unbeating heart to the wrong guy?

5. Princess: A Modern-Day Fairy Tale

When William spends the last of his money at a charity ball for a date with a princess, he soon finds out that he actually got the real deal! This 2008 movie is perfect for a family movie night with tweens and teens.

6. Anastasia

The 1997 Disney movie about a young orphan who is secretly the surviving daughter of Tsar Nicholas II may not sound like a romance for kids, but with Disney’s spin on the tragic tale, it becomes a story of unexpected love. With voice actors like Meg Ryan, John Cusack, and Angela Lansbury, you know it’s going to be a good one!

7. Corpse Bride

Tim Burton’s masterpiece may seem more like it belongs on a Halloween list rather than a Valentine’s Day movies for kids list, but it truly is a fun love story for the whole family! When Victor is stolen from his true love and whisked away to the underworld to marry the mysterious Corpse Bride, he learns that nothing in any world can stand in the way of real love.

8. Star Struck

When an ordinary girl meets a teen pop star, sparks fly in this feel-good Disney Channel movie. Jessica Olsen wasn’t expecting anything exciting to happen on a family trip to California to visit her grandmother. However, all of that changes when she agrees to help her older sister to find the famous pop star, Christopher Wilde.

9. Geek Charming

When snobby Dylan agrees to let Josh film her life for a documentary, she thinks it’ll give her an edge in the Blossom Queen contest. Dylan’s bossy, diva attitude gets her fired from the film, though. He later rehires her after seeing a glimpse of who she really is underneath her façade. It’s a great story about being yourself, with plenty of age-appropriate romance!

10. The BFG

Another one that isn’t a traditional love story, The BFG is a beautiful tale of the love between unlikely friends. When a kind giant goes against his nature and protects a little girl instead of eating her for supper, the two embark on a journey to prove that sometimes enemies can become the best buds.  Want to know more? Finding Valentine’s Day movies for kids on Netflix isn’t hard if you branch out from an idea of romantic love (which, let’s be honest, is a concept that young kids don’t really understand anyway) and think about it in terms of true love. True love encompasses a wider variety of themes: best friends working together, the love between a child and their dog, even the love a friendly giant feels for his “food.”

As far as romance goes, you can never go wrong with a Disney movie. Just about every animated classic- from Snow White to the Aristocats- has a strong love story at the heart of it. Even most of the Disney Channel originals are about love in some way.

Looking for shorter Valentine’s Day movies for kids on Netflix? Skip the feature-length movies and browse through the episode descriptions for your kids’ favorite series. Many of them have at least one Valentine’s Day episode. Kipper, Casper, Clifford, and even Dinosaur Train all have Valentine’s Day specials.

These are just a few of our favorite Valentine’s Day movies for kids on Netflix. Can you think of any others that you love to watch together? Tell us in the comments!
