Back to school means back to germs! Cough & cold season, here we come. It’s not my favorite time of year, that’s for sure! Jacob has a stellar immune system. He rarely ever got sick for the first 8 years of his life. Then last year, either the germs got hardier or he lost his super powers. He was home with a cold for a week straight! That never happened before.

This year, I’m making sure I’m prepped for cough & cold season by stocking up on the essentials asap. Since he was rarely sick before last year, I didn’t really buy a lot of cough and cold medicine for children. I was caught at 11PM with nothing on hand. Not this year. I’d rather stock up and see it go to waste than worry about my son feeling miserable in the middle of the night when all the stores are closed. I’m also keeping my new SayAhh! Sore Throat Home Exam Aid on hand!

SayAhh!: A Revolutionary New Sore Throat Tool For Moms

Sore throats often come with coughs and colds. The big question is: what kind of sore throat is it? My little brother is highly prone to strep, but I’ve never had it. I get sore throats from post-nasal drip, nothing to really be concerned about as far as aching throats go. Kids can get many different types of sore throats, from mononucleosis to thrush.

SayAhh! Sore Throat Home Exam Aid helps you determine what’s happening in your child’s throat. It’s a patented tool designed to minimize the gag reflex. Since Jacob is tongue-tied, it’s not easy for him to stick out his tongue and say “ahh.” In fact, it’s pretty much impossible. When the doctor using that little stick, it really bothers him.

The unique curves and angles of SayAhh! help keep your child’s tongue more relaxed, offering a better view of the throat. Since it’s made of medical-grade plastic instead of wood, it’s more comfortable too. All this helps reduce that urge to gag. The handy flashlight that comes with it makes it easy to see what’s happening back there.

Once you do get a visual, a handy included chart helps you identify what you’re seeing. The chart features six of the most common causes of sore throats in children. If you need a bigger visual, you can always visit SayAhh! on the web for larger diagrams and a sore throat guide. Not near your computer? No worries, just grab the new SayAhh! Exam Guide App in the App Store.

What do you do with that information? Well, unless you’re a pediatrician yourself, you call your child’s doctor and tell them what you see. They can take it from there. Maybe they’ll ask you to bring your child in, or they could advise you to treat with fluids and take a “wait and see” approach. I’m not a doctor, so I’m not telling you what you should do. SayAhh was designed by a doctor and it’s recommended by pediatricians, but they also want you to “observe and report” rather than try to make a diagnosis on your own.

  1. Our son rarely get sick too and just like your son, I think he lost his superpower last year because he caught the dreaded flu. And that was after he had his first flu shot. So ironic! I can’t remember a time that he got a sore throat. Hoping and praying this year will be okay for him.
