Did you know that millions of Americans have never left their home state? I think it’s really hard for me to imagine. I live in Pennsylvania, right on the border of New Jersey and less than two hours from NYC. If I wanted to, I could literally walk to New Jersey. There’s actually a foot bridge not far from me that lets you do that. You can stand in two states at once!

I don’t remember the first time I left my home state. I was born in Colorado and we moved to Pennsylvania when I was just a few months old. My grandmother took me on a trip to California when I was about four. I started summer visits to my aunt in different states where her Navy husband was stationed when I was 10. I was flying alone by 13. From age 19-23, I lived in three different states. I moved to Japan for two years when I was 24. So yep, it’s really hard for me to imagine staying in one state for an entire lifetime.

I understand, though, that not everyone has the opportunity to go exploring our big country. So U.S.Cellular is going to give them a hand in “Big Country,” their new series created through a partnership with Ulive/Food Network/Travel Channel.

Get Out and See this Great Big Country

Big Country is a new series that seeks out regular, every-day Americans who just never had a chance to get out and explore. Those selected Americans get to go on an adventure of a lifetime! Even more exciting, they have Andrew Zimmern to guide them! If you haven’t heard of him, he’s the host of Bizarre Foods on The Travel Channel. He travels the world eating really odd things.

During their travelers, the lucky Americans will get to explore new cities and cultures, experience amazing views and, of course, try new flavors. Throughout the whole adventure, U.S. Cellular helps the travelers stay connected to their friends and family and share all their exciting stories, even in the Middle of Nowhere!

Check out this video to see an episode and learn more. In it, a California man travels to NYC for the first time and gets a taste of his first NY hot street pretzel. Oh, those are GOOD! I sure hope Andrew also took him for a taste of NY-style pizza! Oh, and bagels! NYC has the best bagels! We have a lot of shops in my area that get them trucked in every morning.
