Five Must-See August Events in Massachusetts

Nantucket Antique & Design Show

Antique lovers won’t want to miss the Antique & Design Show in Nantucket! It’s considered the premiere antiques event on the entire east coast! The festival runs from August 2nd through the 5th, so you still have a little time to get there! While you’re visiting Nantucket, take some time to check out the other beautiful sights the island has to offer, like the Old Wharf pictured above!

Essex Arts & Crafts Street Fair

If you love arts and crafts, you’ll want to catch the Essex Arts & Crafts street fair on August 10th and 11th! The event takes place at the Essex Mall in Salem. Yes, that Salem! One of my favorite places in all of Massachusetts! Crafters, artisans and culinary geniuses from the area descend upon the fair to share their goods with visitors. It’s a great place to pick up a truly unique piece of art or sample some delicious Massachusetts food! Want to try even more delicious goodies? Check out the Salem Farmer’s Market while you’re there!

Swamp Romp! Music for Children from Down on the Bayou

Kids will love getting down to jazz and creole music at Swamp Romp! Visit the  Firehouse Center for the Arts in Newburyport for a fun show featuring interactive dance and music numbers celebrating the Louisiana styles of music. Think of this as a bonus event! Not only do you get to visit gorgeous Newburyport, but you also expose your kids to a little southern culture! Massachusetts is a lot closer to Canada than the deep south!

Shakespeare Festival at Plimoth Plantation

No one did plays quite like Shakespeare! Fans of his work will love this event in historical Plymouth, where you can get a preview of plays like “Much Ado About Nothing” and “As You Like It.” Feeling brave? Check out the open house and give performing on stage a try yourself! Kids will enjoy activities like mask decorating, and the whole family will love watching the sword fights! This festival runs August 9th and 10th.

 Fiber Revival

No, it’s not a festival to talk about breakfast cereal or getting more fiber in your diet! The Fiber Festival is actually a neat exploration of arts like hand-spinning, weaving, rug making and more! The event takes place at the historic Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm in Newbury. Admission is incredibly reasonable at $6 for adults and $4 for kids. If you’re a baseball fan, stick around for their Vintage Base Ball Double-header! The game is included in the admission.

  1. I haven’t visited Massachusetts yet. I am looking forward to the time I get to go. I have family that has been going to Nantucket every year for at least the last 15 if not longer. They keep their boat there for part of the summer.

  2. I think that the Essex Arts & Crafts Street Fair sounds like fun too and something my family would enjoy. I am hoping one day I will get to see Massachuseets, it is a state I have never been to yet!
