Do you love chocolate cake as much as I do? How about oranges? Try putting the two together to create a delicious low-calorie dessert that you will fall in love with!

Low-Calorie Dessert: Orange Chocolate Cake

Not only will this recipe not expand your waistline (as long as you only have one piece,) but the main ingredients have health benefits.

As for chocolate, it is not yet considered a health food, but it does have certain benefits. Katherine Zeratsky, R.D., L.D., a nutritionist with the Mayo Clinic says that the sweet treat may reduce risk factors for heart disease, such as reducing cell damage, lowering blood pressure and improving vascular function. Some research has hinted that chocolate can even reduce the risk of diabetes, although you may not want to do that unless you are very careful. The studies need much more research, but are promising.

As for oranges, who can turn down the sweet, juicy fruit? It is the one thing that I crave quite often and I love how healthy it is. They are known to relieve constipation, regulate blood pressure and purifies the blood. Research studies also indicate that oranges can help prevent certain types of cancer and protects against heart disease. Also, when your mom told you to have orange juice when you were sick? It turns out she was right! Studies show that oranges have high amounts of polyphenols, which fights and helps prevent viral infections.

Now that you know why you should be eating chocolate and oranges, let’s get ready to make this delicious low-calorie dessert!

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 40 minutes

  3. I made orange cookies before when we bought band fruit and just had WAY too many oranges. This is going in my recipe pile for the next orange surplus!

    • Thanks, Dede! I can’t get enough of oranges (I’m addicted) – let me know how you like the recipe!

  4. sounds good, even though low calorie doesnt make it necessarily healthy.

    • Thanks, Miranda! It is really good. You are right, just because something is low-calorie doesn’t make it healthy. I love orange cake and wanted to make a healthier version of it using better ingredients, like whole wheat flour.

  5. This looks delicious and oh so perfect! Pinned :)

  6. Doris Calvert says:

I love orange! This sounds so good, I have to make it, thanks!
