In Canada, the last Wednesday of February is known as Anti-Bullying Day, as well as Pink Shirt Day. Our Family World is very passionate about putting an end to the bullying epidemic plaguing our children. Rather than dedicate one day, we’ve declared this February to be “Bullying Awareness Month” on the site. Technically, that month takes place in October world-wide, but one special month a year just isn’t enough. Bullying has such a major impact on a child’s self-esteem and emotional well-being, and it need to be discussed regularly so that it remains in the front of our minds.
Bullying Awareness Month Features
Expect to see many informative and touching articles throughout our special Bullying Awareness Month, including:
- An interview with rising pop music star, Spencer Kane
- How to avoid raising a bully
- Quotes about bullying that you can pin and share with friends to help spread the word
- A memorial to the victims of bullying who were unable to get help before it was too late
- Tips to empower your child in front of a bully
- What to do when the bully is an adult
- Special Bullying Awareness Month Tweet Chat
- and much more.
What you can do to help
Putting an end to bullying is a major task. While one person can certainly make a huge difference, it takes everyone getting involved to really get the word out. It doesn’t take much to help. Throughout the month, we’d love it if you could:
- retweet our anti-bullying tweets
- pin our graphics to help spread the word on Pinterest
- share our posts with your friends and family
- join us in our special Anti-bullying tweet chat (date and time to be announced)
What would you like to see featured during our Bullying Awareness Month? Let us know if there is something in particular you would like us to cover, and we will do our best to make sure its included.
this is a great initiative, can’t wait to participate in the tweet chat. I spent much of my teen years as an anti bullying advocate.
thank you Amber!! I am so sorry for what you have been through!!
Love that you bring bullying to the forefront. I homeschool my 12 year old because of the bullying he endured last year. Not everyone has the same privilege and we may get him back into school in the next few years.
I am so sorry Michelle!! This must be hard!! My 11 year-old was bullied for 3 years but we couldn’t homeschool!! It was tough for him
I’m anti-bully too. I made quotes about bullying on my blog. I think anything we can do to raise awareness helps.
I was bullied when I was in junior high and it was extremely hard. It affected my self-esteem. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.
I am sorry Stacie! My son was bullied and it affected his self-esteem. I know where you are coming from!!
What really bugs me is that bullies are RAISED that way. I would love to see a post on what sort of behaviors that adults can model in their own lives to help prevent their kids from becoming bullies. I say we lead by example!
True Diane! We will cover it soon. Children are mirrors of adult’s behavior
I love that you are doing this. It’s crazy how vicious bullying gets. Sharing this to help spread the word.
Thank you for sharing Marina! Every share counts!
As a parent of a child who was bullied I applaud your efforts. Bullying is so hard on children and it needs to stop.
I am so sorry Cristine! Let’s join the movement and stop this epidemic!
So glad to see you bringing attention to this. Bullying is so sad and something that I wish was not in our world.
Thank you Jeannette! It is so important. Unfortunately my son went through this and I want to share my experience with others. Maybe it can help
Great post! Such a wonderful reminder that we can each make a difference.
Thank you Tammilee. Hopefully we can make a difference!
