Create A Handmade Gift Basket To Save Costs On Christmas Gifts

By DeAnna Troupe

Christmas gifts can get really expensive. One way to cut down on these costs is to create your own handmade Christmas gift baskets. Handmade Christmas gift baskets can be the perfect solution for the person that seems to have everything already. The rest of this article will give you some tips on how to create handmade Christmas gift baskets this year.

Things To Ask Before You Start Making A Handmade Christmas Gift  Basket
Before you start making this basket, ask yourself who you are making the basket for. What do they do for a living? What are their hobbies? What is the intended recipient’s favorite sports team? Do you know of any medical ailments they have? Does this person have any special dietary restrictions? You don’t want to give a vegetarian a meat basket. What kind of budget are you working with? These details will help you create the perfect handmade Christmas gift basket because you will know exactly what you are looking for when you start shopping for supplies.

Supplies You Will Need To Get To Make Your Christmas Gift Basket

In order to make a Christmas gift basket that will be treasured, you need some tools. First and probably most important is something to hold the gifts in. You can use your imagination here. A common thing people use is a wicker basket. They are easy to use and can be purchased inexpensively at many dollar stores and thrift stores. Other things that can be used include pails, a tackle box (for a fisherman), a tool box (for a handyman). a sewing basket (for a seamstress).  A lot of people save the basket itself and use it for storage after they have used up the items in the basket. You will also need some cellophane paper to cover your basket with (check craft stores for this item), a pair of scissors, some filler paper, and some ribbon to decorate your basket with.

Putting The Christmas Basket Together

Now here comes the fun part-putting it all together. Place your main theme gift in the center or high enough that the eye is drawn to it.  Additional gift items go around the sides and then add filler material such as colored paper or straw available at hobby stores.  If you have a paper shredder and colored paper make the filler yourself and save.  Remember, an overflowing basket looks better than one that is sparsely filled. Remember that cellophane paper you bought earlier? Once you have placed all of your items in the basket, place the basket in the cellophane paper and put some ribbon around it to make it look festive.

A handmade Christmas gift basket is the perfect thing to give people when you do not have a lot of money to spend on Christmas gifts. In addition to saving money, you get to use your creative side to make someone else have a great day. Just have fun and use your imagination. I am sure the person you give this gift to will appreciate the thought and effort that went into creating this Christmas gift basket.
