Book Review: Blaze of Glory by M. Garzon

Blaze of Glory Book

Author: M. Garzon

Summary of the book

My latest book review adventure for Our Family World, is for a book called Blaze of Glory. This fictional work is based on the main character, Tea, pronounced Tay-a. At first glance, she seems like a typical seventeen year old girl on the cusp of young adulthood. With that big life transition comes many emotions, experiences, and the newfound challenges of romantic relationships. She is a relatable girl with best friends and cohorts in secrecy, plus chores to do, and homework which she puts off for the last moment. Nothing is simple when you’re seventeen. Add to that, losing your mom a few years before and living with a step-father you don’t see eye-to-eye with, and things can get complicated quickly.

My Review of Blaze of Glory

-Passion for horses:
Tea demonstrates a love for horses and a passion for horse jumping. Along with her twin Brother Seth, Tea teaches riding lessons and cares for the horses that are housed and cared for on their property. Tea is also a head-strong young lady, with a strict step-father. Though her step-father cautions her aggressive jump training, Tea proceeds to do want she wants anyway. This includes acquiring a secret job to pay for the big costs of participating in prestigious horse competitions.
Back to my teen years:
Garzon brings the reader along for a ride as we see how Tea faces challenges head on. Then along comes her handsome, and older, step-cousin Jaden. It certainly was interesting to see their relationship play out on the pages. The realities of Tea’s coming of age, are something most young women can find mirrored in their own lives. More than once I felt as though Garzon had eavesdropped on my own teen years.
– Educational:
Blaze of Glory has multi-layered story lines, that co-mingle and weave around each other nicely. Though an animal lover, I have no experience or knowledge of the world of Horses. With many equestrian terms sprinkled into the dialogue, I found it educational. And never found my lack of horse-sense leaving me lost in the plot.

Recommendation

Racy enough at some points to keep me reading, it wasn’t inappropriate or offensive to my conservative senses. I would recommend this book for the young adult female audience interested in novels dealing with animals.Blaze of Glory is a much younger book than I would choose for myself (I’m in my mid-thirties) but was a nice light read with enough plot complexity to peak my interests. Consider adding this book to your Holiday gift list for the young woman in your life.
More about the book and Author-

m. garzon rode horses professionally for ten years, until an injury prompted a career change. She returned to school and completed a BSc; then, for good measure, an MBA. After several years of toiling as a business consultant, she turned to writing in a desperate bid to regain her sanity. A mom of two fabulous children, she lives in St Lazare, QC and is currently working on the sequel to Blaze of Glory.Quote from M. Garzon’s Facebook profile.
